Canada Wild Rye
Canada Wild Rye, or Blue Wild Rye, is a perennial bunch grass that is native to much of the US, except the far South Eastern states. It is most abundant in the plains and prairies of the US and Canada from Texas to the Arctic. An adaptable plant, it can also be found in dunes near water and woodlands. The striking flower heads of Canada Wild Rye are a light bluish green and can reach almost a foot long.
Although it can grow without the symbiosis, it is known to partner up with certain fungi, forming mycorrhizae that can substantially boost its nutrient uptake. Because of this plants tolerance of different soils, it is used to vegetate and stabilize mining overburden, and would be suitable to use on other disturbed lands.
