Silphium laciniatum
A large and striking US native perennial, this plant has 4" sun-flower-like blooms that attract bees and butterflies. The large flat leavesorient themselves along a North-South axis. This minimizes the parching heat of the mid-day sun. Compass plant can reach 12-feet in height, though is usuallo closer to 5-feet.
